our thor dog

Our kind-hearted Thor dog (a golden labrador) was born with an old soul. In his youth he had exuberance in his steps and he loved to run off-leash for miles and miles when we trekked through the trails near our home. Camping was his favourite, knowing that at any given time food may be dropped for him to devour in lightening speed. Within seconds he could ‘hover’ anything and would follow a hot dog in hand until it was consumed by us (or friends) or by him from an accidental slip of hand. His good nature allowed him to happily embrace adulthood, his steps may have slowed and he had less ambition to play ball, but his appetite never decreased.

Sadly, overnight (as though it seemed to us) he woke as a senior, with his bold steps changing to a slow swagger. To the point, where we began calling him ‘Eeyore’ from Christopher Robin’s Winnie-the-Pooh books. Cancer took his life quickly but he never allowed the pain to effect how he showed us his love, he continued to greet us when we entered the room and even played ball when he didn’t have the strength to stand at times. So we protected him until the end, when we had to say our final goodbyes to our champion, our Thor dog.
